An Exploratory Study of Consumers’ Knowledge and Attitudes about Lignin-Based Sunscreens and Bio-Based Skincare Products

Daily consumption of synthetic sunscreens is harmful to the environment and consumers’ health, so greener alternatives need be produced. Lignin a multifunctional widely available biopolymer that can replace several ingredients, but its dark color low sun protection limit perceived usefulness. With survey made for this study, we explored knowledge attitudes 230 consumers towards lignin-based sunscreen, their motives barriers purchase it, how it relates environmental health consciousness. Participants were also asked about sunscreen habits, familiarity with impacts skincare, perceptions bio-based ingredients in general, skincare product purchasing decisions. Those who are more familiar issues have positive attitude accustomed environmentally friendly likelier interested lignin product. Consumers welcoming natural, healthy, alternative worried lower SPF. Because organic as luxurious, they concerned price, some apprehensive pigmentation. While at stage development unlikely take on role primary warm, sunny days, may useful general-purpose, everyday offer protection, moisture, coverage.
